Custom Blinds By Design: Holiday Decorating Tips

As the days get shorter and colder, the Christmas lights shining in the dark become more and more welcome. Decorating for the holidays can be tedious, expensive, and frustrating or it can be an uplifting experience that will warm up your winter nights and get you excited to entertain. Take advantage of the opportunity to beautify your home and mix things up: you’ll be coming home ready for snowball fights and hot chocolate.

Idea #1 – Buy pieces you’ll love all year round.

One lesson we’ve learned to love in the last few years is to invest in beautiful things and then use them all the time.

Buying sparkly serving ware, crimson blankets, gold pillows – it’s wonderful to be surrounded by beautiful things all the time, and during the holiday season there are more than enough beautiful options to choose from.

Idea #2 – Decorate with food

You might not want to buy more things – maybe you have limited storage or a tight budget. But a big plate of Christmas sugar cookies can make any table look lovely during the holiday season. And walking into a house filled with the smells of cinnamon, mulled cider and chocolate – that’s good enough decorating for us!

Idea #3 – Make your house come alive

It’s easy to get into the festive spirit with some simple additions to your household energy such as an array of candles and wonderful music to set an appropriate mood. It sets a nice tone of the type of space you want to come home to, as well as being soothing for guests you will inevitably be entertaining!

Idea #4 – Traditions: old and new

The wonderful part about decorating for the holidays is the number of options you have. You can set up the same Christmas village your family has been using since before you were born, or you can go out to the store and pick up that hilarious Christmas llama and happily install him next to the door. Some traditions are beautiful and sentimental that we would never want to change, but that doesn’t mean we can’t add our own flair or alter the traditions to make them come alive again.
